To strengthen our R&D team, we are looking for an

 

                                                                                                Ink Chemist  

 

 

ROLE

 

 

The Chemist will perform research and development of Paste ink formulations for Intaglio, Offset, and Letter Press applications. Reporting to the Technical Manager, Paste Inks, at Springfield Virginia.  This individual will help design UV curable and conventional drying security inks as well as oversee implementation to production and assist in field testing. This is an opportunity for a detail-oriented proven scientist to exercise creativity in the development of innovative products and resolution of complex challenges in a team working atmosphere.

 

 

 

PROFILE

 

 

  • The position requires a four-year college degree in a related scientific discipline (Chemistry, Chem. Eng., Mat. Science, etc.) with at least 2-3 years’ experience with printing ink and or chemical testing.
  • Experience should include lab evaluation of ink or chemical performance encompassing collection, analysis and recording of data and ability to concurrently and independently conduct multiple short and long-term projects successfully.
  • Research and development of new as well as improvement of existing high performing Paste ink systems for Intaglio, Offset, and Letter Press printing processes for a diverse array of applications and substrates.
  • Assist in building new ink systems around best available polymers, diluents, and additives.  Ink system formulations must often be customized to accommodate unique security features that are not typical ink ingredients.
  • Collaborate with chemists and scientists locally and at other sites in researching, developing and adapting analytical techniques and methods in understanding and improving Paste inks systems.
  • Assist in partnering with engineering and manufacturing teams in efficiently and effectively transferring products from lab into production.
  • Perform a wide range of analytical chemistry using a range of software, techniques and equipment such as GPC, GC, XRF, Rahman and VSM.
  • Perform physical characteristic testing for ink samples which include color evaluation, Grind, viscosity, tack measurement and printing samples for ink qualification.
  • Provide press-side technical assistance as necessary to research, qualify and resolve issues with products.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment ensuring that health and safety standards are followed 
  • Travel  10-15%
  • The motivation and ability to solve complex problem.
  • The ability to develop and validate methods in a systematic approach to tasks.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.  Able to write reports, and present data through good written and oral communication skills.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and ensure that data is accurately recorded
  • Exceptional computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access). Knowledge of SAP a plus.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-driven, ethical, trustworthy individual, with high expectations of self and others. Able to work in a team environment.
